Brickfield 4 Coedpoeth 5

Brickfield Rangers fell to a 5-4 loss today in their first pre season friendly against Coedpoeth United in a good workout for the squad as they start to learn a new system and way of playing for the new season.

With just 13 players per squad allowed, and three 30 minute halves as we look to ease our players back into competitive action after 8 months, both sides will be looking to the positives as we move forward into other games.

Brickfield made the perfect start as the two new signings from Prestatyn Town immediately made an impact. Elliot Lloyd playing a ball over the top to Aaron White who lobbed the Coedpoeth keeper and into the net after only 57 seconds! And it was 2-0 after just 11 minutes, as Lewis Parry from the edge of the area struck powerfully into the bottom corner. Coedpoeth though had dangerous moments, and got one back after a quick counter attack from Leo Jardel who played in Dion Lewis to make it 2-1. Brickie continued to push forward though, Andy Vale forcing a stop from outside the box before they regained their two goal advantage, Elliott Lloyd touching a ball onto Nathan Pritchard who managed to finish in the top corner, and it could have been more before the first interval, as Andy Vale again came close, shooting across goal before the end of the half.

The rain really started lashing down for the 2nd half, and as both teams got used to the change in conditions it was Coedpoeth who reduced the deficit, Dion Lewis doubling his tally as he shot from 30 yards out. Aaron White and Andy Vale though were continuing to link up brilliantly for their first start together, and forced Coedpoeth into conceding a penalty minutes later, which Aaron White converted for his second of the game and Brickfield's fourth. Whilst the conditions in this half led to many less chances coming from either side, Aaron White came very close to completing his hattrick before the end of the 2nd half.

Coedpoeth pushed forward in the 3rd half and got an early breakthrough through Luke Hall, who finished well. Both sides were now getting more chances, with Coedpoeth hitting the post and Morgan Jones twice coming close to regaining Brickfield's two goal advantage. Unfortunately for Brickie, Coedy made them pay for not taking their chances earlier, as Curt Griffiths scrambled one home for Coedpoeth to equalise. We weren't finished though, ex JD Cymru Premier star Matthew Cook unleashing a fantastic effort that was destined for the top corner, only for Coedpoeth keeper David Bromley to tip the ball onto the crossbar. With minutes left and both teams going for the win, it was Coedpoeth who got the breakthrough in the final minutes, Curt Griffiths being played in for his second of the game as Coedpoeth intercepted a loose Brickfield pass.

With thanks to Brickfield for the match report
