HISTORY

The first documented mention of football in St Asaph dates back to 1888. Very little documentation exists about football in the City prior to 1973. In that season the team played in the Dyserth League. When the Dyserth & Halkyn Leagues were amalgamated St Asaph played in Division 3. The team folded in 1980. After a gap of 10 years the team was reformed for the 1990-91 season. They finished Runners up in the Clwyd Premier League, winning both the President`s and the Auxiliary Cups. In season 1992-93 after winning the Clwyd League the team was promoted to the Welsh Alliance. They finished mid table and were looking forward to consolidating their position during the next season. Their hopes were dashed when an arson attack destroyed the changing rooms and without the required facilities the team had to fold.Football returned to St Asaph in 2000 when the junior teams were established. A new pavilion was opened in 2006 and a senior team was re established, playing in the Clwyd League Division 2. After finishing second in season 2008-09 they were promoted to Division 1. The following season the team won the League Championship and were promoted to the Premier League. In season 2012-13 after winning the League they won promotion to Welsh Alliance Division 2. Season 2014-15 saw the Saints crowned Champions of Division 2 and winners of the League Cup. From season 2015-16 to 2019-20 they played in the Welsh Alliance League Division 1.A Reserve team was established for season 2017-18 playing in the Vale of Clwyd & Conwy League and the Welsh Alliance Reserve League in season 2019-20.The Club also has a strong junior section with teams playing in the Rhyl & District Junior League.
