 HISTORY
The Club was formed in January 1943 at Capel Mawr in Rhos. Originally run as a youth side, Rhos Aelwyd have been playing continuously for over 75 years
.
The Club has had numerous successes over the years, the first being the capture of Urdd Gobaith Cymru's Pantyfedwen Cup in 1955 in their sixth successive final.

After amalgamating with local side Ponciau Aelwyd, Rhos Aelwyd were formed in 1958/59 under the leadership of Meirion Powell and completed the Cup and League double in the Welsh National League's Second Division.
In 1986, under the leadership of Peter Davies, the club won the prestigious North Wales Barritt Cup, despite being drawn away from home in each round. In a nail biting final at Llanelian Road, Colwyn Bay, Rhos Aelwyd defeated a strong Caernarfon Town in a penalty shootout.
In 1992, the Aelwyd were accepted as members of the North Wales Cymru Alliance. Unfortunately, the club was relegated from the second tier in 1997 and returned to the Welsh National League Premier Division.
During the season 2005/06, with Tony Williams at the helm, the Aelwyd had one of it’s most successful seasons, winning the Welsh National Premier Division Championship and also reaching the finals of both the Premier Division Cup and the North East Wales Football Association (N.E.W.F.A) Challenge Cup.
At the beginning the season 2007/2008, long serving manager Tony Williams decided to take a break from local football with ex professional footballer Steve Waters taking over. In his first season, Steve managed to guide the club to one of its finest hours when capturing the prestigious F.A.W. Welsh Trophy in April  2008 at Cefn Druids FC's Plaskynaston Ground. Walters added another trophy in his second season when capturing the Welsh National Premier Division Cup for the first time in the Club’s history with a convincing 4-1 against Llangollen Town also at Cefn Druids. Walters third season was arguably his best which saw the Club win the Welsh National League Premier Division League Championship and earn promotion back to the Cymru Alliance League to allow the club to participate in the second tier of the Welsh Football pyramid once again. In their first season back, Rhos finished fourth in the Cymru Alliance, a remarkable achievement for a small club and also won the NEWFA Challenge Cup.  In the same season the Reserves won a League and Cup double with the Colts also winning their League Cup. Unfortunately, in season 2011-12 Rhos were relegated back to the Welsh National League.
The Club, with Huw Rowlands now in charge, had an excellent 2017-18 season, winning the Division One Cup, reaching the final of the FAW Welsh Trophy and gaining promotion to the Premier Division of the Welsh National League.
During the last twelve months major infrastructure upgrades have taken place at Ponciau Park to achieve FAW Tier 3 Ground Criteria Certification, most notably the construction of new changing rooms. The Club has developed a vibrant junior section in recent years, four new junior teams were established during the 2019-20 season who participate in the Wrexham and District Junior League. A development team at Under 19’s level will also be established for the 2020-21 season.
